Well, it’s the first of May, and that means summer is right around the corner. People are going H.A.M. with their diets and workout regimes in an effort to get right for the summer. Sometimes it becomes incredibly difficult to coerce oneself to go to the gym. In order to keep people on their path towards their summer bodies, I uploaded two mixes, one for cardio and one for weightlifting. These are the songs that I find myself listening to the most whenever I’m at the gym and I figured, if worse comes to worst, at least it may offer you all some variety to break up the monotony of the gym.

The first mix is a mix of lighter music intended to be listened to during cardio (obviously).

The songs on it are upbeat and are from the likes of MIA, La Roux, Childish Gambino, Lupe Fiasco, Yelawolf, Jay-Z, Duck Sauce, and more. It clocks in at about  47 minutes, which should cover most cardio routines.

You can find “Run, Dummy!” here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tqk9qjltbh9gsk5

The second mix is for your weightlifting routine.

I’ve always found that I get the best results lifting when I’m listening to something intense. As such, this mix is a bit darker than the one I made for running. A lot of heavy bass, crazy lyrics, and more can be found here. I took songs from Army of the Pharoahes, M.O.P., Eminem, Joe Budden, Big Pun, Wu-Tang, and more. This one is a bit longer, clocking in at about an hour and a half.

You can find Racks on Racks on Racks (I know, I should’ve thought of a better name) here:

Me listening to these killer mixes at the gym hahahaha

Anyway, with everyone trying to get fit, I figured I would just throw this out there in case anyone needed something new. If y’all have any feedback I would LOVE to hear from you. Good luck to everyone who’s trying to get in shape for the summer!

Raavan OST

April 24, 2010

Being the closet fob that I am, I was eagerly anticipating today because the soundtrack to the movie Raavan was dropping. For those of you not in the know, Raavan is an upcoming Bollywood film directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwariya Rai, among others. It’s supposed to be some kind of modern adaptation of Ramayan and looks interesting:

Forget the movie though, the guy that composed the soundtrack is A.R. Rahman. The man has been on a roll as of late and hopefully, after the success of Slumdog last year, he finds an even bigger audience for his amazing music.

It seems as though Rahman saves all his best songs for Mani Ratnam films (Roja, Bombay, Dil Se… To name a few), and the soundtrack to Raavan looks to continue that trend.

I’ve already listened to it once and already know it’s gonna be on repeat for a long time. Stand out tracks are “Beera Beera” for its rustic charm and oustanding vocals, as well as “Kata Kata”, which sounds like a sequel to “Rukamani” from Roja.

If you enjoy different types of music, give it a chance. Even if you don’t understand Hindi, the musical arrangements are impressive enough to catch your ear.
