Raavan OST
April 24, 2010
Being the closet fob that I am, I was eagerly anticipating today because the soundtrack to the movie Raavan was dropping. For those of you not in the know, Raavan is an upcoming Bollywood film directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwariya Rai, among others. It’s supposed to be some kind of modern adaptation of Ramayan and looks interesting:
Forget the movie though, the guy that composed the soundtrack is A.R. Rahman. The man has been on a roll as of late and hopefully, after the success of Slumdog last year, he finds an even bigger audience for his amazing music.
It seems as though Rahman saves all his best songs for Mani Ratnam films (Roja, Bombay, Dil Se… To name a few), and the soundtrack to Raavan looks to continue that trend.
I’ve already listened to it once and already know it’s gonna be on repeat for a long time. Stand out tracks are “Beera Beera” for its rustic charm and oustanding vocals, as well as “Kata Kata”, which sounds like a sequel to “Rukamani” from Roja.
If you enjoy different types of music, give it a chance. Even if you don’t understand Hindi, the musical arrangements are impressive enough to catch your ear.

Ranjha Ranjha is the standout track. Beera is cool too.
